Time to get a better look

As most of the hard work is finally finished (the galleries themselves), it’s time to make some customizations for real. I’ll be changing this theme soon. It’s not that ugly, it loads fast and all that, but I’m just not very fond of blue (and it has a lot of blue…) and things seems to be too big font-wise so to speak. Also, some basic features don’t seem to work nicely with this theme like some basic things in the pages – submenus for custom pages, which can be an important part in the future, to use these in a separate link in some sort of a “menu” for easy access to the galleries and even pagination. At the same time that it’s basic enough to load fast and have a clean appearance, it’s too simple to make some basic things work. Also it’s a bit too thin, text gets too extended when in fact it’s not that long. It’s thin in its overall width, but the fonts are way bigger. Not very proportional, and I’m not in the mood of customizing CSS right now.

I’ve tried some new themes, and those that I liked still need some small fixings (easy stuff, basically) before being used right away, while this I’ll be also looking for other options. I might use one from these pre-installed after all, but if I find something else that fits better with my tastes and the overall look and theme of the site, it will be replaced. I’ll probably not be using any theme with some sort of a big “logo” or “top banner” design, as it would require extra customization as in making a specific fractal just for that, making smaller banners based on that for links etc. etc.. It might work, but it’s not really something that is needed. I could (re)use a logo/banner I did for fractalland.com, but as it has some transparency over some odd background colour, probably it won’t fit. Also if a theme doesn’t work with a plugin that I’ll be using that will be a part of the whole layout and that can’t or won’t be disabled – like the Font Burner plugin – the theme will not be used.

About the images, part VI

There are less general comments to make about the images every day, but there are some points still not mentioned yet.

Most of these images were made much before than the now common 16:9 format became the default size (I guess it’s the default now, at least for LCD screens, isn’t it?). UltraFractal’s default size when you just install it and opens the default image is a 400 x 300 px image (or was, at least), in the standard (and already old?) 4:3 format. It was the common size used for ages, with all these very known sizes like 320 x 240, 640 x 480, 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768.

Ooops…

I was wondering why most of my Apophysis images weren’t in the galleries (mostly the newest), and noticed that some of the most recent ones weren’t included in my big fractal list of images. I’ll try to add them one at a time starting with the next gallery.

Do you make 50 images every day? How can you post so many images?

Not anymore. There was a time that I probably could do that, though.

If I post say 3 or 4 galleries with around 15 images each in the same day it’s just because these images I’m posting were already made, ready to be posted, some are even 10 years old or maybe more. I’m in sort of an updating phase more than a creation phase, I’m just sorting things out and cleaning the dust before I’m back to making new images.

These images aren’t all fresh creations, not all of them at least. In each gallery probably there will be one or 2 relatively newer images (not often though), but all these weren’t done at once right before I published the post.

Still experimenting…

This time with a new theme. Black or darker pages look good as a background for pictures but they are quite tiresome after a while if there is some text to be read. A few colours match with the black background so that they can be used as text colours, and a white or clearer layout is more “update” so to speak. And definitely black text over a white “page” is much easier to read than a white text on a black page.
