OK let’s get started…

by on Jun.21, 2010, under Images

To begin and test the image posting features, a brand new image. Careful, wet ink!

This is called “starting over”. Made with UF. Much probably its size is 1600 x something. As with any other posted image from now on, click it to see a (much) bigger version. The images will open in the same browser window by default (so far).

About the images, part III

by on Jun.21, 2010, under General

Most of my images were done with UltraFractal, some with Apophysis, some with FractInt and very very few with other softwares. The Fractint images were created and “tweaked” within Fractint exclusively, but most of these images were imported into UltraFractal to make some small fixes (mostly regarding colour smoothness and better/bigger rendering sizes – Fractint runs in DOS!). When a Fractint image was altered in a very radical way (like being used in a layer of an UF image), it’s usually described that it’s sort of a “UF +Fractint” image or some other similar description.

Why English if the site’s name is in Portuguese?

by on Jun.21, 2010, under General

Whenever I need to give the fractalland.com’s address to others, I notice that when it’s done in the “old way” (orally!), people quite often don’t understand it at first. So I’ve decided to try to make a site “clone” of fractalland.com but with a Portuguese title, so I could just give that other URL whenever needed. I’ve even thought about letting mundofractal.net just in Portuguese, and fractalland.com in English. Soon enough I’ve discovered that if keeping just a singe site is already quite a big task, let alone cloning it and keeping both synchronized, translating, etc..

As this will probably be (hopefully) the fastest and easiest way to post what really matters – the fractal images – I’ve decided to keep it mainly in English, as it’s the “web language” anyway. It might have some occasional posts in Portuguese, but that’s not my intention at the moment. The posts that are going to be in (Brazilian) Portuguese only will carry the tag “Português”, so it’s easy to filter them if you want to read just the posts in Portuguese.

About the images, part II

by on Jun.21, 2010, under General

After I discovered that it’s possible to make image galleries quite fast and easily with WordPress, I’ve decided to give it a try for good. My initial idea was to make single posts with single images, one a a time, and with the selected images and new stuff it would keep me busy and the site alive for quite a long time even with the now “smaller” number of images that deserve to be posted. But then I learned about the galleries possibility, so I’ll be probably doing some posts in gallery format and other in the individual posts format.

As I’m still learning how to use this new blog format, things might get messed up occasionally, but I’ll try to make stuff while I’m still learning the tricks.

About the images, part I

by on Jun.21, 2010, under General

I’ve decided to send the images I didn’t like to the fractal heaven, and some images are now gone. I’ve kept those that really interest me, who cares if it’s a simple spiral, or a 256-colour image made in Fractint? I am the first person that must like my work. If I don’t like it, probably others won’t. I don’t work for the masses, I don’t work expecting public admiration (although I must say it’s quite nice when you’re invited for an exhibition at the Lincoln Center as I was…) neither to be popular at Deviant Art or something like that, I don’t make fractals based on how many comments they will get at some community site. I just do this to please myself, first and foremost.
